 Theo kế hoạch ban đầu, tòa nhà sẽ được khai trương trong tháng 12-2009. Tuy nhiên báo chí Dubai mới đây loan báo nó sẽ khánh thành vào ngày 4-1-2010, trùng dịp kỷ niệm bốn năm cầm quyền của tiểu vương Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashed al-Maktoum.
Được khởi công cách đây năm năm, Burj Dubai là tòa nhà chọc trời có 160 tầng với tổng vốn đầu tư 4 tỉ USD. Đơn vị thi công là Tập đoàn Samsung của Hàn Quốc, cũng là đơn vị thi công tòa tháp petronas (Malaysia) và tháp Đài Bắc 101 (Đài Loan).
